My mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, which by this time had metastasised to the brain, and therefore approached Dr Daniel Tan. She received radiation therapy to the brain as well as pharmacological intervention. As the cancer was discovered late, there were already 4 lesions in the brain, which affected her mobility as well as her cognitive abilities. She also experienced weakness on the right side of her body.
Before treatment, our family was completely unfamiliar with radiation therapy. This changed quickly as Dr Daniel was able to educate us and clear all our doubts on the process, just by answering any and all questions we directed at him.
He always followed up in a timely manner to ensure my mom was well-adjusted and taken care of, and responded promptly to our questions even when off duty. It was a relief to know that professional advice was readily available whenever we needed it.
Even when things hit rock-bottom, Dr Tan went above the call of duty: he never gave up on treatment and this kept us going, as we knew that we were not alone on this journey. As long as we had an issue, Dr Tan was there to see us almost immediately.
Moving forward, my mum has her amazing memory back: she was always good with numbers and when she was diagnosed we thought she’d never get this back. But she did and this helped her transition back to her normal life.
My advice to future patients would be: Stay open to treatments, eat regularly and go for early/regular screenings if possible. Most importantly, stay POSITIVE!
Finally, I would like to thank Dr Tan for his extreme dedication: he did more than just treating the illness. He cared about the welfare of my mother, and actively engaged her during consultations. Today my mother heeds Dr Tan’s advice more than ours, and we are indeed very blessed to have had him as my mother’s doctor.
